By now just about everyone has seen or heard about the police misconduct that occurred at UC Davis this past weekend. The police have a duty to protect and SERVE the public, we pay them to do so. Unlike some of the other Occupy protests this one occurred on a college campus, the protesters were students who pay tuition to attend, reside, and use the campus. Right Wing Republicans complain about the Occupy Movement in cities because they are using public resources, well stupid people, we pay taxes on everything to provide these public places, protesters included.
This movement if you have any common sense only show that there is a problem with our Nation as a whole. You hear Presidential Candidates say "Get a job only after you take a bath". First who the fuck takes a bath, second where the fuck are the jobs, thats what people are protesting. The fact that the top 1% of the county holds 40% of the wealth. Taxes are not the problem! Look at former Apple CEO Steve Jobs (RIP) his salary from Apple was a whole whopping $1.00 a year. Yes you heard me right one dollar, along with 5,426,000 share of Apple stock. As of today 21 Nov 2011 is in excess of $2,002,248,260.00. The stock was valued at $18.01 when he was grated over 7 million shares, today the stock is worth $369.01. I wish I bought stock in Apple when I was 11 years old, I'd be a fucking millionaire by now, FUCK ME. However Jobs salary is part of why the problem exists. The capital gains tax is lower than the payroll tax, and that is just one of the many tricks written into the tax code that allows the 1% to prosper on the backs of everyone else.
We always hear about the corporate tax rate in this country being too high, and that we need to intact lower it. Yes the rate is one of the highest in the world, however we have so many loophole written into the tax code that last year the IRS paid companies money, they paid nothing in taxes and actually got money from the country. No corporation should receive money from the Government. Companies need to pay taxes, they utilize the roads, airports, and many other taxpayer funded programs. As much as I hate paying tolls to use the PA and NJ Turnpikes, at least I know that the roads will be cleared in the winter, and that they will be repaired when in disarray. Well the nations interstate system is free for all, it was and is paid for by tax dollars, without corporations contributing to the repair of the roads then they should not be allowed house them.
On a side note, when the United States Supreme Court hears the cases regarding the Affordable Care Act "Obamacare" there are at least three justices that have to recuse themselves otherwise the American public will know just corrupt the US Supreme Court truly is. Justice Hagan while she was not a part of creating the bill, she did work for the Obama administration so thats a Grey area. Justice Clearance Thomas gives speeches to conservative audiences, recently attended a dinner hosted in his honor by the Federalist society, attended by the Law firm who most likely will be arguing in front of the court. Oh and his wife has founded a Tea Party Organization whose main function is to repeal the healthcare act, so you can't tell me that there is no conflict of interest. His wife won't put out if he rules for the act, we know this because Clearance Thomas was accused of sexual harassment in the past. Justice Antonin Scalia joined Justice Thomas at the federalist society and has spoken at many conservative events. Justices of the Supreme Court are supposed to be nonpartisan and fair. Our court is broken, if the Founders are truly rolling over in their graves by the way our nation is heading.
We need term limits for everyone in government. We have the President limited to 2 terms, and thats it. Congress needs term limits. Recently we saw a 92 year old senator die, he had been in the senate for 51 years. WTF?? Congress should have term limits of no more than 12 years, that would be three terms for congressmen and two terms for senators. Supreme Court Justices should have 20 year terms, with the most senior Justice being Chief Justice.
